Yarsa Gumba (Cordyceps)

Yarsa Gumba, Yarcha Gumba is an interesting combination of the plant and animal kingdom. At the height of above 14,000 feet, in the Himalayas, is found this fungus (Mushroom) Yarsa Gumba that grows wild in these Himalayan heights and has been used traditionally for centuries to heal numerous diseases. The Fungus (Mushroom) grows out a worm and consumes the entire worm as it grows out of it. What is left is the skin of the worm which is dried up (almost like a capsule) and the fungus growing within and outside. The part which is within the skin of the dead worm contains the maximum amount of nutrients. This rare plant has traditionally been used as a household remedy; however, today it is used in clinical medicine as well.

In China, it was used by the Emperor and it was considered a crime for common people to use it. The importance of this fungus is so much that at various times, in Tibet, China and Nepal it sparked a war between peoples to obtain and control it. The Yarchu Gunbu from Dolpo in Nepal is considered very good quality and costs more than the usual variety.

In recent times, Chinese athletes are known to use this and their performance in various athletic meets is outstanding. There were some controversies about Chinese athletes using drugs but on checking, the results turned out negative. The Chinese coaches attributed the result to the regular use of the Mushroom (Fungus) Yarsa Gumba (Cordyceps Sinensis).

For those who are Vegan or Vegetarian this fungus (Mushroom) may be unsuitable however no animal cruelty by humans occurs during its production as the process of the Mushroom growing out of the worm is natural, therefore the medicine is Ahimsak (non-violent).Today, it is successfully grown artificially by mycologists, this artificially grown Mushroom (fungus) may be suitable for Vegans & those Vegetarians who strictly wish to avoid eating anything of animal origin.
Nowadays, it is available in the markets at reasonable prices in whole form, in powder form, in capsules, and as extract in capsules.
