Kushmanda

The fourth form of the goddess is Kushmanda. She is known to destroy all pains at the physical, sensory and material planes. She is the form of the created world. She creates individual things in creation and gives the world energy. She was named Kushmanda because the world was created due to her laughter. She is seated on a tiger, wears a red sari, crown and various ornaments. She has eight hands and holds a kamandal, a bow, an arrow, a lotus, a discus, a mace, a japah mala, and a pot. She makes her followers fearless. For this form of hers she says "I am the Brahmanda, and I am the mistress of the universe. I am all inert matter and I am the highest consciousness. I am the ignorant, and I am the intelligent. I am the action (karma) and I am the lack of action (nishkarma). I am the process and I am the reaction. I am the sky, the earth, the water, the planets, and the stars. I am fear and I am fearlessness. I am creation and I am dissolution. I am time and I am eternality. Nothing in this universe is different from me". She is the goddess of the changing seasons and she solves any problems that arise due to the change of seasons. Therefore she is also known as Sheetla Mata (the mother who cools down things, that is provides relief).

Her mantras for worship are

1. "Sheetle tvam jaganmata Sheetle tvam jagat pita Sheetle twam jagaddhatri Sheetlayai namo namah"

2. "Ya Devi Sarvbhuteshu Shanti Rupen Samsthita Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah".
